Search and Rescue Dog Training Center Building

We built a container training building for the center where search and rescue dogs are trained in Poland.

We have added another project to our portfolio in Poland. As Karmod, we have completed numerous container building projects in Poland, primarily in agricultural production areas. In this project, we completed the installation of the training service building for the dog search and rescue center.

The container service building was installed in the town of Sulejowek, near the capital Warsaw, where the search and rescue dog training center is located. The building, designed at our Karmod technical office, was planned and produced according to the dog training center units.

The environmentally friendly nature of Karmod containers was a key factor in their selection for this project. Built in an area close to a forest, the building offers advantages for sustainable environmental management with its full conversion capability.

Our search and rescue dog training center building was designed as a two-story structure of 87 m² using our new generation modular container model. The building houses the search and rescue training center's manager and trainer rooms, a veterinary room, a laboratory, a dining hall, and a lounge. There is also a dormitory room within the building for the accommodation of caregivers and on-duty trainers. The structure, consisting of 6 units produced at Karmod facilities using a disassembled package system, was shipped to Poland on a single truck.

Search and Rescue Dogs

Search and Rescue Dogs are specially trained dogs used in search and rescue operations. They are used as a fundamental support tool in search and rescue activities conducted in city centers and natural areas such as rugged terrain and forest regions. They serve as a key auxiliary element in locating living beings after natural disasters like earthquakes, floods, and landslides. They are also used to search for living beings lost in nature.

These specially trained dogs work as a team with a Search and Rescue Specialist. For more extensive searches, a Dog Search and Rescue Team is formed, consisting of specialists and dogs, to provide services.

How Are Search and Rescue Dogs Selected?

Dogs to be trained for search and rescue purposes are subjected to special tests by an expert trainer while they are still puppies. Puppy candidates that meet the critical requirements for search and rescue duties are selected and accepted into the training center.

How Are Search and Rescue Dogs Raised?

Dogs that pass the candidate selection undergo two years of intensive training at the dog training center. They learn to follow simple commands through ‘basic obedience’ training. They then undergo ‘basic skills’ training, which includes food and toilet training. Subsequently, through ‘advanced obedience’ training, they become capable of understanding and executing complex commands. In the final stage of ‘advanced skills’ training, they acquire complex skills such as obedience to a designated person and tracking. Along with this training, they undergo training in search and rescue tracking, gas leaks, natural hazards, and fire awareness. This training continues regularly throughout their service.

Search and Rescue Dog Certification

Candidate dogs that successfully complete the above training undergo testing together with their trainers. Teams that pass the test are certified and join the search and rescue team. In general, search and rescue dogs continue to take tests on special courses with their specialists every two years. Their certificates are updated after each test.
