Bilgi University Student Support Centre

We built a Student Support Centre building for Bilgi University, one of Turkey's leading educational institutions. The 144 m2 building, built with the new generation container model, was erected in a short period of only 2 days. The Container Student Support Centre building project was carried out at Bilgi University's campus called Santral, located next to the Old Silahtarağa Power Plant.

Istanbul Bilgi University Student Support Centre has set itself the mission of contributing to the education and academic development of students as well as their versatile upbringing, developing their life skills and thus creating a student-centred university environment. Its basic motto is ‘Students should learn for life, not for school’.

The Student Support Centre, which aims to develop a high quality student life at Bilgi University and to act as a bridge between students and academic and administrative units, provides services in the following areas: Student Clubs, Student Council, Sports Unit, Disabled Student Unit, Dormitories, Scholarships, Events and Museum.

Combined Container System in Modern Buildings

Bilgi University Student Support Centre building was constructed by combining Karmod new generation containers with a combined system. For the project, 10 container units of 240x600 cm were used. Container structures, pre-production of which was carried out in Karmod modern facilities, were shipped to the project site by loading 2 units to each lorry after manufacturing. The structures unloaded from the vehicle with the help of crane were installed in full conformity with the project on the same day. On the second day, electricity and water installation connections were made and the structure was presented ready for the use of the university.

What is in the 2 Storey Container Support Centre?

Designed in a modern architectural concept, the support centre building has the best usage ergonomics. Glass applications were used intensively in the design for a bright interior environment. The entrance to the ground floor of the support centre is provided by a door opening from the wide facade according to the plan. On this floor, there are two rooms on the right and left to communicate with the student and one more room on the back right. In the centre-left part, there is a lounge overlooking the open kitchen at the back. There are male and female toilets in the centre back.

Access to the second floor of the support centre is via a staircase located at the rear exterior. This floor is specially designed for the use of the manager of the support centre. There is a much larger meeting room next to the manager's study room at the entrance. The front facade of the upper floor is completely reserved for the observation terrace.

Istanbul Bilgi University, which adopts the principle of ‘learning for life, not for school’, took its place in the Turkish university education system with the application made under the auspices of the Bilgi Education and Culture Foundation. The establishment of the university took place on 7 June 1996 and was approved by the Turkish Grand National Assembly with Law No. 4142. Accelerating its growth over time, Bilgi University continues its education services on an area of 210,000 m2 covering three campuses located in Santra Istanbul, Kuştepe and Dolapdere.

Istanbul Bilgi University, which has grown over time to cover an area of approximately 210,000 square metres in three campuses, Kuştepe, Dolapdere and Santra Istanbul, continues to serve its students and the world of academia in Turkey. The university, which has over a thousand academicians, serves associate, undergraduate and graduate students. Today, Bilgi University provides education to students with 8 faculties, 3 institutes and 3 vocational schools.
