We Completed 1200 Independent Commercial Areas in 50 Days in Earthquake Zone

On 6 February 2023, Kahramanmaraş Earthquake caused great destruction. After the earthquake, a large number of housing needs emerged. While the panic in the first months was overcome, an important need emerged in commercial shop areas.

Based on this need, commercial areas in the region were designed and construction was accelerated under the coordination of AFAD. As Karmod, we took our place with our structures. We made a great contribution to meet the need by completing 1200 independent areas in 13 different locations in Hatay and Osmaniye in a short period of time like 50 days.

Where were the commercial shops established after the earthquake?

The total size of the commercial buildings we have built within the scope of the AFAD commercial shop project is 30,000 mm. We made the commercial shops ready on time, with a total of 12 locations in Hatay's Antakya, Defne and Samandağı districts and 1 location in Osmaniye's Bahçe district. 1126 of the 1200 25 m² shops were completed in Hatay centre and 74 in Osmaniye's Bahçe district.

Among the commercial shops we built with our panel system prefabricated building system, those installed in Hatay were installed in 12 different regions. The planned installation sites of these blocks were as follows: Primemall Shopping Centre in 3 different areas, Subaşı in 2 different places, Vegetable Market, Hospital Junction, National Garden, Old Bus Station, Altınözü Çekmece and Samandağ.

In Osmaniye province, the installation of 74 shop blocks in Bahçe district was completed and allocated to the rightful owners.

For What Purpose Are Prefabricated Shops Used?

The prefabricated shop project made the small tradesmen who lost their businesses in the earthquake zone smile. From tailors to hairdressers, many tradesmen were happy to reopen their small businesses in new shops.

25 m² standard-sized commercial spaces offered as shops are used for small businesses such as greengrocers, tailors, hairdressing salons, grocery stores, clothing stores, mobile phone repair shops, watchmakers, butchers, spice shops, hardware stores, curtain shops, restaurants and kiosks.

Prefabricated Shops Reconnected Tradesmen to Life

The shops, which were completed in a short time and distributed to the rightful owners, helped the tradesmen of the region to leave their pain behind. Tradesmen reopened their shops with new hopes and the hopes of the people of the region flourished again. In the new shops, the feelings of tradesmen's unity were revived. The door was opened to new neighbourhoods, solidarity and cohesion.

Prefabricated Shops are Safer

Prefabricated structures designed in special software programmes are produced in modern facilities with the use of new generation technologies. Safe prefabricated structures with weldless technology can be installed on site in a short time with the advantage of bolt nut and joint system. Technological production, installation by professional teams in full compliance with the project makes prefabricated structures safe. While leaving the fear of earthquake behind with its safe building model, it also saves budgets with its high insulation performance. Air conditioning in the prefabricated building in summer or winter is carried out with the most economical budget with minimum energy use.
